Dancing Mama

About a year ago, I had to take my daughter to a dance competition.  Since the venue was a considerable distance from our home, we spent the night at a hotel.

My daughter turned on the television and immediately found the music video channel.  The song that was playing was, Eye of the Hurricane, which I happen to like.  So what did I do?  I got up and started dancing - in my pajamas.

My daughter stared at me.  When I was done, she shook her head.  "Mom, you're really embarrassing me, and there's not even anyone else in the room!"

"Yeah, I know," I said. "Just doing my job!"

  3. Embarrassing my kids-just one more service I offer. It's a parental right and duty!!

  4. That's one of the reasons we had kids: to embarrass someone other than ourselves. Isn't that the way it works?

  6. Teens are like that. When I was a teenager I told my mom she did that ALL OF THE TIME. Like you, she didn't seem to care... hahaha.

    1. Yes. When you become a parent, you really don't care if you embarrass your kids. It's just part of the job!

  7. I remember my mom embarrassing me every chance she got. I love doing the same, especially to my daughter.

  10. I hope you danced in the hallway, all the way down to breakfast the next morning, just to prove you're really good at your job too :) Of course, my daughters would have joined me, if I'd done that and we all would have giggled through our breakfasts from the stares :)

    1. Your daughters seem to be fun-loving. My daughter would've just rolled her eyes and walked about a mile behind me if I would've done that in the hall!

  11. I think it's important for kids to know their parents can dance and have fun. Keep up the good work! Fellow AZtech minion here.

  14. Ha! Yes, we must embarrass our children. It's the best revenge. However, since my last dance move involved accidentally kicking over a trashcan to the merriment of my family, I will find other ways, other ways . . .

    1. I haven't done the trash can thing, yet. I guess if I had done that, I'd be embarrassing myself. ;0)

  15. LOL. I don't think my kids have ever told me I embarrassed them. Then again, they don't hang out in public schools so they may be missing that right of passage altogether. *shrugs*

    1. You've never embarrassed your kids? How the heck have you managed that? Are your kids teenagers?

  17. I'm not a mother but mine has gone so far that its not easy to embarrass me now. When I was 15, I did a CPR babysitting class. I ran into a former friend and we waited outside for our rides to show up. My mom got there first. Climbed out of the car in a florescent orange and pink jumpsuit, climbed on the car, and started waving and screaming "RACHEL, MOMMY IS HERE. COME TO MOMMY." At my last job serving tables, I was slammed with four tables plus her. Before she left, she went to every table as I checked on them and said "Hi, I'm Rachel's mom. How is she treating you?" I wasn't embarrassed but I was pretty mad that none of them left me a decent tip.

    1. That would aggravate me, too. I try to leave decent tips - especially if my kids had been a little messy. I know what a pain it is to clean up after them!

  21. LOL, a parent is never truly a parent until they embarrass their child... ;)

  22. Most of the time, it's not necessary for parents to try to embarrass their child. Most things that parents say or do, or do not say or do not do, embarrass their child!

  24. "Just doing my job" I love that - what a quick comeback :) I used to do that to my niece & nephew until I started playing World of Warcraft, then I became the coolest aunt in the neighbourhood - to my nephew's friends at least, he wasn't quite so impressed when his friends ignored him to talk WoW with me! lol
